Do You Have an Attitude?

"Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the Gospel of Christ" (Philippians 1:27)

Do you sometimes find that your attitude is difficult to control?

What can you do when the “grouchies” take hold?

I believe the single most significant decision I can make on a day-to-day basis is my choice of attitude, and although my “choice” is to have a great attitude at all times, sometimes it’s just hard to shake off an unsettling bad or grouchy mood! It’s probably one of the most frustrating things I am challenged with, because I know that today’s attitude matters! And although attitude isn’t always obvious to others, the liabilities (to self) associated with a bad temperament can simply limit our potential and drag us down. According to scripture, our attitude towards life, circumstances, and towards others should be like the Lord’s. The attitude we that we show in our daily living is a witness to others.

“And to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. (Ephesians 4:23)

If you think about it, our attitudes toward ourselves and others is a direct result of our attitude towards God, because we aren’t choosing (or acting or feeling) to be the way He wants us to become. After all, our attitudes are really the inner character of our heart and thoughts; they are hidden expressions and feelings that can eventually serve as a basis for our actions. Of course, there are certainly times when we have a legitimate reason to be upset about things, but God wants us to lean heavily upon Him and look to His Word. He wants us to look to Him to see what to do and how to react. Bad attitudes are responsible for needless worry, and God promises us that if we truly have an obedient heart--a good attitude--He will supply all our needs in abundance.

“If you serve Christ with this attitude, you will please God and others will approve of you too.” (Romans 14:18)

Our attitude is an indicator that shows God, others (and ourselves!) the work and ways that He is exhibited in us; it displays who Christ is in us. We have a responsibility to have the best attitude possible so that it will impact and be contagious to others. We love being around people with a great attitude; it’s uplifting, inspirational and contagious. And it’s definitely something that is positive and worthy of being shared and spread around! We need to lift others up, and bring our attitudes into obedience to God’s Word. There are days when it will take discipline to our thought life, and we will have to really submit our thoughts to those of Christ’s and disregard feelings of discontent, with a determination to embrace God’s outlook and disposition.

  1. A change of attitude is only possible by looking at Jesus. He is so generous in forgiving our debt. What we need for every day he would give if we ask Him, knowing that without Him we can do nothing. But with Him ... we fight against our nature, our wrong attitude and inattentive behavior. Let us go to Him. Refine us ...

  2. I love this topic you have here today and the reason I love it is because we all can identify that we need to do some adjustments with out attitudes, when I look at what Jesus says our attitudes are to be sometimes I can do a few of them right then other times I fail at them. But we have to cultivate them all not one at a time, in our lives, because if we wait till we got them down perfect we will never reach the rest of them because here on this earth we aren't going to be perfect but we have to strive for it. And so there will always be days in my life and everyone else where some times we make the mark and the next day we miss the mark..

And though we miss it doesn't mean we should try harder to make it right amen?

    Great post SIS

  3. Our attitude is so important! Sometimes, like you said, we have legitimate reasons to be upset. But, when we lean on God, even at those times, we can change our mood to a more positive one. As we remember our joy in the Lord, we can't help but shine for Him! Blessings, Joan

  8. Great post, Denise! You are so right! Our attitudes we display reflects our attitude about God...we can choose to be content. We can trust that God is allowing our day to be the way it is and trust that He knows best. That is certainly easier said than done; however, it is our choice.

  9. I so agree with you on this! We can always choose our response to situations. For me, that's what 'Heart Choices' is all about. Life is hard at times but with Christ in us, we can choose to rely on Him. As we surrender to His control, the fruit of the Spirit becomes evident to those near us.

I have to admit I give in to my flesh at times. But when I allow Christ to fill me, His fruit is seen. And that is my prayer. I have far too many people in my life who don't yet know Him personally. But they notice my attitude in response to difficult situations. And that's a wonderful testimony and opportunity to point to Jesus.

I miss you too! And I have to tell you that many at my work have mentioned Winco and love it. I hate to say that I've not yet been there but with the move, I've not had much time to shop. I will get there though once school is out as I want to check it out.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

  11. Thank you for your post. We have to adjust our attitude especially when we are known to be "Christian" we are always on display and alot of people look to see what we do and how we behave. Thank you for the encouragement.

  12. Hi Denise,
I agree with you, attitudes attract or repel. As believers, our attitude should speak louder than our profession. Thanks for sharing. Following you from the walk.

  13. This is so true yet so hard. Especially as women with our hormones I know I have days that I need an attitude adjustment. God's word doesn't make an exception for our hormones.
