Doors of Opportunity

“I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed My word and did not deny Me.” (Revelation 3:8)

When opportunities come knocking, are you ready to receive them with a smile? I have always thought of open doors as an invitation to encourage others to express suggestions, problems or concerns, or simply an offer of friendship and communication. An open door is an opportunity that can lead us to a place where we can use our gifts, abilities, and support to encourage others and help them grow.  It is an invitation to pursue our own dreams and ideas, and no matter how tired, weak, or overwhelmed we are we must walk through them. These are open doors of submission to God’s plan in our lives, and when He opens a door for you, no one can close it!
But what about a closed door? A closed door is typically not open for outsiders to express their ideas and plans. Behind a closed door is a private group of select people; it presents an obstacle in front of us, and we may feel restricted to enter. There are a few of us who would dare to open the door, but most of us are too scared of failure and rejection to open the door and walk inside. But closed doors for any of us can be an opportunity to move forward in our lives. They don’t mean that it’s the end of the road or that God has stopped caring for us. They are a way of telling us to change directions and move on from a situation that is not serving our highest interest.

“When one door closes, another one opens; but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.” (Alexander Graham Bell)

I think there are times in our lives when doors seem to open, and then there are times in our lives when doors seem to close. Waiting for God to open doors in our lives can be very difficult and it can be tempting to give up at the first, second or even the third closed door. But God wants us to endure any situation or setback until the right open door is made known to us! It’s important to remember that a shut door doesn’t mean it’s over for us, it just means that He is getting us ready for something bigger and better than ever before. We need to thank God for closing doors just as much as we thank Him for opening them; I am pretty sure that the reason He closes doors is that He has not prepared anything over there for us!

“I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what He opened no one can shut, and what He shuts no one can open.” (Isaiah 22:22)

God will open a door for us when we allow Him to test our plans for our life. We can’t be so focused on a closed door of opportunity that we fail to see one which He opened for us. All kinds of doors are swinging and we can’t be afraid to take the risk of walking through them. God has the key to every open door, and He can change every situation and open new windows of opportunity. He will guide each and every one of us through the doors He wants us to walk through. We have to seek and trust Him even when we don’t understand what’s going on; He will shine a light that will lead us to the next open door, and when we find it we can’t walk through it…we must RUN through it!

  2. Dear Denise
I relate so well to the heart of this post. When I became I'll with Fm/CFS, I thought my life has ended. It was only a door that closed on a life I was used to, but our Pappa opened other doors that I never would have walked through were I not ill. Thanks!
    Blessings to you, dear friend

  5. Denise, this is a great post! As I continue my journey with the Lord, I ask before knocking, stepping through or opening any doors, for I know my reasoning is flawed. it is so wonderful to place your "what should I do's" on the altar and wait for help. He answers! Blessings to you!

  8. It's taken me many years of learning how to trust, believing that God only opens those doors that are best for me. Today I don't look at a closed door as a negative thing, but I look at it as an opportunity to embrace a greater blessing from God.

  10. God has closed many doors in my life... mostly with serious health issues. But for every closed door, He opens a door, offering the beautiful opportunity to trust Him. He may not choose to change our circumstances, but He will always provide an opened door of rich relationship with Him... what could be better!
Denise, I always love reading your posts!

  12. Hi Denise,
Speaking of closed doors. Some time back someone shared about a time when he and his wife were just about to purchase a home. It was a go right up to closing time, when for some unknown reason everything fell apart. Then they went on to buy another house elsewhere. A few years down the road they learned that the house was built on a toxic waste dump. God was looking out for them. When He closes a door, it is always good to remember God may have a good reason for closing the door, we just don't know yet what it is. Thank you for sharing another wonderful post and may God bless you,
    Ken
